Garth’s work and lifestyle have seen him living and surfing around the world. Garth was working as part of the Maurice Cole team when the MC Boards brand rocketed to the top of the industry with surfers Taj and Margo, and Maurice himself nicknamed Shaper to the Stars. These times provided a wealth of experience to Garth. A move to Torquay in 2001 meant more
opportunities to surf and tow-in to remote Vico reefs. Managing production of a large factory and a retail store; dealing directly with the public and tailoring boards to customers’ needs; it’s at this time that Garth’s brand started to take off. While frequent surf trips through Australia,
Indonesia, Hawaii, Africa and Europe helped keep his board designs at an elite level.
As the five leading board labels of Australia formed the Base group , Garth started working with Simon Anderson, managing his label and production. An influentail career move, given Simon’s impact on surfboard design with the thruster.
Garth has now taken the opportunity to branch out with his label, shaping for many of the WCT and WQS surfers and doing regular shaping trips to france, having his boards distibuted by Surf Odyssey through Europe. This is where he’s at now, alongside putting his years of experience and knowledge into his own label.
